As at today 3rd of April, 2020, the total number of death recorded as a result of the novel coronavirus pandemic is now now 53,000 while over 1.3 million people have contracted the contagion virus world wide.

Yesterday, the United States recorded over 1200 deaths while the death toll in Spain is now close to 10,000. It is to be noted that Italy still have the highest number of death as it stand around 13,000 as at today.

The death toll in Africa is not that significant as the total number of the death in the continent still in 100s.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has now extended the curfew in the country due to rise in the number of infected people in the country.

Also in South Korea over 27000 people are under self isolation as the number of cases in the country hits 10,000.

Meanwhile, in USA, the state of Washington has extended the stay home order till May 4 as cases continue to rise in the region.

According to the Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC), data as at 21st of May 2020 shows that the country has now recorded 7016 confirmed cases, while 1907 cases have been discharged and 211 deaths have been recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Yesterday, NCDC announced 339 new confirmed cases and 9 deaths were recorded in Nigeria and there has been no new state that has reported a case in the last 24 hours.

The 339 new cases are reported from 18 states- Lagos(139), Kano(28), Oyo(28), Edo(25), Katsina(22), Kaduna(18), Jigawa (14), Yobe(13), Plateau (13), FCT(11), Gombe(cool, Ogun(5), Bauchi(4), Nasarawa(4), Delta(3), Ondo(2), Rivers(1), Adamawa(1).

Total Sample Tested - 40,043

Total confirmed cases - 7016

Total Discharged -1907

Total Death- 211

Yesterday in Niger state isolation centre some suspected COVID-19 patients receiving treatment at a government facility in Minna, the state capital, threatened to discharge themselves over poor treatment.

In a video going viral online, some of the patients expressed anger at the situation, saying they were not comfortable with their feeding arrangement.

They however, requested to be allowed to be in their homes instead of being left to die of hunger at the isolation facility.

Meanwhile, there is tension in the state over the purported escape of a woman from an isolation centre.

It will be recalled that some covid19 patients protested in Gombe state due to poor treatment too.

Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in the country which had led federal and state govrrnments to embark on different techique to combat the exponential spreading of the virus, of which different parts of the country are presently on total lockdown while many others are under strict restriction.

Howvever, about 72 per cent of Nigerians have expressed concern over lack of food , economic hardship and hunger during the ongoing lockdown in the Abuja, Lagos and Ogun states .

This was made known through a survey that was conducted by NOIPolls and published on Tuesday(Yesterday) gauged the level of concern of Nigerians about the lockdown order .

Findings indicated that others worry over the survival of those whose livelihood depends on daily hustling .

The opinion poll on COVID- 19 to gauge the perception of Nigerians revealed that almost all adult Nigerians ( 99 per cent ) were aware of the outbreak of coronavirus disease in the country.

“With regards to concerns with the lockdown, 72 per cent of respondents specified that they have concerns about the lockdown. These concerns included lack of food for the poor ( 40 per cent) , that people will die of hunger ( 21 per cent ) , of economic hardship ( 13 per cent ) and the survival of those whose livelihood depends on daily hustling ( nine per cent ) amongst other concerns mentioned ,” the report stated .
