A tragic carbon monoxide leak has claimed the lives of 12 people at a ski resort in Gudauri, northern Georgia, authorities confirmed on Monday.
The victims, including 11 foreign nationals and one Georgian citizen, were found in a sleeping area above a restaurant at the popular ski resort. Early investigations suggest that the cause of the deaths was an accidental gas leak, with no signs of violence on the bodies.
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a deadly, colorless, and odorless gas often produced by incomplete combustion of fuels such as natural gas, wood, or charcoal. Prolonged exposure can lead to severe poisoning and even death due to oxygen deprivation.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident, with forensic teams examining the scene. The identities of the foreign victims have not yet been released.
