It was a sardonic Saturday evening, as a devastating accident occurred in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, when a trailer lost control and collided with three minibuses, resulting in the deaths of seven people.
The incident happened around 7 pm at the Imo State University junction. The truck, reportedly driving against traffic, struck approximately 20 individuals before crashing into the minibuses. Each minibus was carrying nine passengers, including the drivers.
Some of the injured victims were quickly transported to the Federal University of Technology Hospital Owerri (FUTHO) for urgent medical care. Tragically, seven victims were confirmed dead and their bodies have been placed in the morgue.
An eyewitness named Emeka described the chaotic scene, noting that the buses were hit in rapid succession because they were driving closely together. The accident prompted a large crowd to gather at FUTHO, as people searched for their loved ones.
