At least five members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) were reportedly killed in a gun duel with state police operatives in the Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The incident occurred around 9:30 pm on Wednesday when the group allegedly invaded the Ishieke Police Station in a blue Sienna bus and opened fire. The police engaged the attackers in a gun battle that lasted about 30 minutes, ultimately overpowering them. During the confrontation, several police vehicles were reportedly set ablaze.
Videos showing the bodies of the deceased attackers were shared on social media platforms on Wednesday night. According to reports, operatives from the state police command headquarters in Abakiliki and soldiers responded swiftly to a distress call from the Ishieke Police Station.
A reliable source described the heavy shooting that ensued, forcing residents to flee for their lives. "The gunmen arrived at Ishieke Police Station and opened fire. The police responded, and the exchange lasted about 30 minutes before additional security operatives arrived for reinforcement," the source explained.
As the gunmen attempted to escape, they continued shooting sporadically while moving towards Odomoke Ishieke market along Nwiboko Obodo road in Ebonyi Council Area. They were ultimately apprehended by the advance team of security operatives.
