Gunmen enforcing sit-at-home orders wreaked havoc in two Anambra communities, leaving a trail of death and destruction.
The tragic incidents occurred on Monday morning in Nnewichi community, located in Nnewi North LGA, and Nnobi community, situated in Idemili South LGA.
The attackers stormed Nnewichi community, targeting a hotel where they discovered a meeting was taking place. Tragically, Ubajiekwe lost his life in the confrontation. Numerous others were injured and have been taken to various hospitals across the state for treatment.
In Nnobi community, the gunmen continued their reign of terror by shooting sporadically to intimidate residents and engaging in gun battles with security operatives. Confirming the attacks, Anambra police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga stated that three people, including a 22-year-old woman, have been confirmed dead.
“The commissioner of police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has ordered an immediate manhunt operation on the armed men operating in a red Highlander jeep, who abducted a citizen in Nnewi by 1:30 pm yesterday, June 17, 2024, and were trailed to Nnobi, where they engaged security operatives in a gun battle,” Ikenga said.
