Police operatives in Anambra State on Tuesday allegedly killed four people said to be hoodlums operating in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The men were said to have blocked the road, trying to force residents of the area to stay at home in observance of a sit-at-home exercise, said to have been broadcast on the internet, over the trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu.

On Monday, the local government secretariat of Idemili North, situated in Ogidi, had been burnt down, just as the Enugu Electricity Distribution office in the area, court buildings and welfare complexes had been burnt by suspected IPOB elements.

On Tuesday, however, four suspects said to be enforcing the sit at home order around the Ogidi area were confronted by security operatives and killed.

Pictures of the slain hoodlums were made available on social media, while the Anambra State Police Command confirmed their killing.

The slain men were said to be from the same gang that had operated around Onitsha, killing security operatives and disposingsing them of their arms.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the killing, saying the command and other sister agencies had been on patrol to maintain law and order in the state.

Tochukwu said: “Yes, our men have been working today. We believe people should be allowed to go about their normal businesses without any form of intimidation and harassment.”
