The Niger Armed Forces have successfully apprehended a notorious Nigerian bandit kingpin known as Kachallah Mai Daji.
This significant development occurred near the border town of Illela, Niger, marking a pivotal moment in the ongoing efforts to combat insecurity in the region.
According to Zagazola Makama, a seasoned security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Kachallah Mai Daji has wreaked havoc and instilled fear across northeastern Nigeria for over a decade. His reign of terror has been characterized by wanton violence, including senseless killings, village burnings, mass kidnappings, and extortion of levies from local communities.
Makama emphasized, "He has killed dozens of people, burnt down villages, kidnapped hundreds, and imposed levies on villages for almost ten years." The apprehension of Kachallah Mai Daji is a testament to the relentless pursuit of justice and the commitment to restoring peace and security in the affected areas.
The notorious bandit leader was known for his brazen activities in the Illela region, where he terrorized numerous villages, including Tozai, Sabon Garin Darna, Darna Tsolawo, Tudun Gudali, Basanta, Ɗan Kadu, Takalmawa, Gidan Hamma, Ambarura, Gidan Bulutu, and many others in the vicinity.
Kachallah Mai Daji's capture by Nigerien forces occurred as he attempted to rustle livestock across the Nigeria-Niger border. This operation not only dealt a significant blow to his criminal network but also serves as a warning to other perpetrators of banditry and transnational crime in the region.
In a related incident underscoring the continued threat posed by banditry, tragedy struck on Sunday when two vehicles detonated suspected bandit landmines in Gamboru-Ngala and Dikwa local government areas of Borno State. The unfortunate incident resulted in the loss of at least 11 lives and left five others injured, highlighting the urgent need for sustained efforts to eradicate this scourge.
