Ward attendants at the Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja, Kogi State, staged a peaceful protest on Tuesday following the death of one of their colleagues, Salamatu Aliu from the Post Natal Ward.
According to reports, Salamatu Aliu was brought to the hospital for treatment on Sunday evening but was not attended to by doctors and nurses due to a power outage. She was later referred to Kogi State Specialist Hospital, where she passed away shortly after arrival.
Speaking anonymously, a source expressed dissatisfaction with the negligence displayed by the doctors and nurses in the Accident and Emergency Ward. The protest aimed to highlight grievances and demand action from the hospital management to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Following assurances from hospital management that the issue would be investigated, the protesters agreed to return to work.
Efforts to reach hospital management for comment were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
Meanwhile, the hospital's legal advisor, Enny O. Esq., stated that the matter is being investigated to determine the facts of the incident.
This incident echoes a previous occurrence in the Accident and Emergency Ward, where relatives of a deceased patient allegedly assaulted medical staff for negligence, leading to a temporary work stoppage by hospital personnel.
