The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the tragic murder of Idris Ahmadu from Nasarawa village, Lapai Local Government, allegedly by his newlywed wife, Aisha Aliyu.
The incident unfolded in the early hours of Monday, sending shockwaves through the community.
The Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, provided details of the incident, revealing that Aisha Aliyu stabbed her husband to death and subsequently fled from the scene before the arrival of the police. Efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the fleeing suspect, who is now at large.
Abiodun stated, "Today 12/02/2024 (Monday), at about 1200hrs, information was received that in the early hours, one Idris Ahmadu of Nasarawa village, via Lapai was stabbed to death by his wife, Aisha Aliyu, 19/20yrs of the same address. Before the arrival of the police at the scene, the suspect had fled to an unknown destination; effort is being intensified to arrest the fleeing suspect."
The case is currently under investigation as authorities work to unravel the circumstances leading to this tragic incident.
According to a local source, the couple, who tied the knot on December 31, 2023, had a minor argument on Sunday evening, which seemingly ended in reconciliation before bedtime. The mother of the deceased and other residents were alerted by Idris Ahmadu's screams in the middle of the night, only to find him fatally wounded on the floor, with Aisha nowhere to be found.
Sources suggest that Aisha had contemplated not marrying Idris after meeting another man, but family members intervened, persuading her to go through with the marriage.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable turns that relationships can take and the importance of addressing underlying issues. As the investigation unfolds, the community is left grappling with the aftermath of a once-promising union that ended in tragedy.
