The timing of this year's World Cup has been criticized by former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher, who called it "an absolute disgrace.

"

After witnessing forward Son Heung-min of Tottenham suffer an injury during Tuesday's Champions League match against Marseille.

Son has now been added to the list of athletes who may not play in the tournament in November because of an injury.

Before the football governing body decided to change the dates due to the weather in Qatar, the World Cup was typically held between June and July.

A nasty head collision during the first half of the Spurs' 2-1 victory forced South Korea's captain to leave the game.

The forward, 30, has less than a month to recover after being seen with a swollen eye during Tottenham's post-game celebrations.

Legendary Liverpool and England player Carragher criticized FIFA for changing the World Cup's timing.

“I think it’s an absolute disgrace that the World Cup is in the position that it’s in, for lots of reasons,” Carragher told CBS Sports.
The Liverpool legend said that it was corrupt that the Middle Eastern country was allowed to host the World Cup.
“Players who spend their whole lives dreaming of playing in a World Cup and now could be [out] – as we’ve seen with Son,” he added
“And it all started with FIFA giving Qatar the World Cup and then moving it." I think it’s absolutely disgusting.”
