After their 3-0 victory over HJK Helsinki in the Europa League on Thursday, Jose Mourinho attacked his striker, Andrea Belotti, alleging that the Italian has a disease.
Miro Tenho's dismissal just 15 minutes into the game forced Helsinki to play with 10 men for almost the entire game, but Mourinho's team did not score until Paulo Dybala's goal just after halftime.
Lorenzo Pellegrini fired in the second for Roma shortly after, before Belotti scored his first goal for the club since he joined from Torino on a free transfer in the summer.
The Italian striker, who scored 100 goals in Serie A during his seven seasons with Torino, has found it difficult to make an impact during his first few appearances for Roma.
And the former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter Milan boss believes the 28-year-old is trying too hard to score the perfect goal.
“We have super-talented players up front, but we have to play meaner. "We have to be mean when it comes to the attack,” Mourinho told reporters after the game.
“You must be mean and nasty if you want to put the ball into the back of the net."
Belotti also seems to be suffering from this disease we have up front. Today I saw him do four or five heel touches. This is not him.
“He has to score, with his knee, with his ass, with his head." He has the virus of a playmaking wizard, whereas he just needs to score. That’s it. "
