Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has firmly dismissed claims suggesting that Luka Modric is incapable of playing back-to-back matches.
Speculation arose after the veteran midfielder was benched for Los Blancos' Copa del Rey semi-final clash against Real Sociedad on February 26. This led to reports questioning Modric’s ability to handle consecutive games, especially at 39 years old.
However, ahead of Real Madrid’s crucial LaLiga showdown against Real Betis on March 1 at the Benito Villamarín Stadium, Ancelotti put those doubts to rest.
Ancelotti: "Modric Can Play Consecutive Games Without Any Problem"
Speaking at a press conference, the Italian tactician was quick to defend Modric’s fitness and professionalism.
“It’s NOT true that Luka Modric can’t play two games in a row just because he’s 39. Luka is in great shape, well-trained, and physically strong. The data we have shows he is fully prepared to play.”
Modric proved his enduring class in Real Madrid’s last LaLiga fixture against Girona, where he opened the scoring in a commanding 2-0 victory. Ancelotti previously praised the Croatian maestro, calling him "a gift to football" and emphasizing that he should continue playing for as long as he desires.
With Ancelotti’s strong backing, Modric remains a key figure in Real Madrid’s pursuit of silverware this season.
