Awoniyi believes Nottingham Forest can take something positive from the game.
“Now it is Manchester United, which is the first step to what we want to achieve, which is the goal of staying in the Premier League,” the Nigeria international told BBC Radio Nottingham.
“Like I said, we just have to be ourselves. It doesn’t matter who we are playing; the most important thing is ourselves.”
The 25-year-old recently returned to action for Nottingham Forest following a groin injury.
He has scored four goals in 19 league appearances for the club this season.
