The Kano State House of Assembly has passed the Kano State Infrastructure Management Agency Bill 2025 into law, creating an agency to oversee the installation of masts and cable laying by telecom companies and individuals.

The bill, passed after the third reading, aims to prevent indiscriminate erection of infrastructure in public spaces.

The new agency will require telecom companies to obtain permits before installing masts or laying cables and will enforce environmental and public health considerations.

Additionally, the agency will oversee the laying of water pipes, ensuring compliance and imposing fines for violations. Other amendment bills related to agriculture, water resources, broadcasting, and television corporations also scaled through the second reading.

Meanwhile, Governor Abba Yusuf has nominated Arc. Ibrahim Yakubu for a commissioner position, pending screening by the Assembly.
