At a ceremony in Toronto the following month, Alanis Morissette will be honored as a member of the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.
In a statement, Rodrigo, who joined Morissette onstage with her earlier this year in Los Angeles to perform the 1995 hit song "You Oughta Know," said, "I remember hearing Alanis for the first time when I was about 13."
When Jagged Little Pill started playing, my parents and I were in the car. Upon hearing "Perfect," I thought, "Oh, my God... You're able to create music like that? I simply adopted a totally new perspective when it came to music and songwriting.
In a podcast feature for Rolling Stone last year, Rodrigo and Morissette were paired together to conduct interviews about songwriting and their early careers. On the Kelly Clarkson Show earlier this year, Morissette mentioned wanting to put together a "tour survival kit" for Rodrigo.
On September 24 at Toronto's Massey Hall, the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony for this year is scheduled. In addition to Morissette, the Hall of Fame will also induct Bryan Adams, Jim Vallance, David Foster, and Daniel Lavoie. Performances by Alessia Cara, members of Nickelback, and more are scheduled.
