A tragic incident transpired in Ile-Ife, Osun State, as Assistant Priest Lekan Ogundipe is accused of killing the Presiding Priest, Evangelist Moris Fadehan, inside the Celestial Church of Christ at the Omitoto area.
The grim event took place on Monday evening as the presiding priest began the evening prayer session.
Ogundipe reportedly ambushed Fadehan with a bell, knives, and nails, repeatedly stabbing him. The unresolved case of physical assault on a prophetess known as Mummy Ewa, which occurred last Wednesday, is said to have fueled tension between the two priests.
Pa Olafare, the owner of the church, recounted the tragic sequence of events in a video obtained on Tuesday. He mentioned that Fadehan had informed him about the need to disengage Ogundipe as his assistant due to various unlawful acts, including the recent assault on a prophetess. The decision was pending further consultation with the elders.
On Monday evening, Ogundipe informed Pa Olafare that a fire was burning on Fadehan's body, and he was lifeless on the floor. Upon reaching the church, they discovered the presiding priest's burnt body with bloodstains, cuts, and a nail in his ear. Ogundipe later confessed to the police that he committed the crime due to a dispute with the deceased.
Prophetess Mummy Ewa, who was previously assaulted by Ogundipe, revealed that the suspect attacked her last week Wednesday after she asked him to stop spreading rumors about a nonexistent relationship between them. Pastor Fadehan intervened at that time and warned Ogundipe against assaulting members of the church.
The Osun State Police spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed Ogundipe's arrest, and the corpse of Pastor Fadehan has been deposited in the morgue for autopsy. The shocking incident serves as a grim reminder of the vulnerabilities within religious institutions and the need for heightened security and conflict resolution measures. The community awaits further updates from the ongoing investigation.
