Nigerian actor and comedian Bovi has voiced his outrage over a disturbing viral video showing a priest knocking an altar boy on the head during a wedding ceremony.
The incident, which has sparked widespread condemnation, took an even more troubling turn with the priest’s dismissive apology, in which he referred to his actions as a “normal correction” and a “minor correction.”
Reacting to the apology, Bovi expressed his disbelief at the priest’s justification and the support he received from another adult in the video. “He hit a defenseless child. He humiliated that child and harmed his confidence. Now, imagine what he might do if the child actually did something wrong,” Bovi wrote on social media.
The comedian did not hold back in his criticism, questioning the priest’s ability to control his temper in a public setting. “A priest who couldn’t control himself in public—think about what he’s capable of doing behind closed doors. If we think this is normal behavior, then we are all abnormal,” he asserted.
Bovi, who shared the video on September 27, 2024, called on the Nigerian police to take action, highlighting the seriousness of the situation. “Knocking a kid in the head unprovoked is a violent and criminal act. @nigerianpolice, why haven’t you invited this man? If you fight for one child, you will be saving many others,” he stated.
He further emphasized the need for society to address and condemn such acts of abuse, warning of the dangerous implications of ignoring them. “We must prevent and put out small fires before we all get consumed. In a society where a priest who preaches the teachings of Jesus uses physical harm to convey his unprocessed emotions, there is bound to be doom. We’re probably in hell already,” Bovi concluded.
