Three communities in two Local Government Areas of Cross River State have decried neglect and appealed to Gov Bassey Otu to remember them by fixing the only bridge linking them to the outside world before it kills more people.

Community leaders expressed unhappiness over the pain that poor access to other communities has caused them.

The bridge connects Ejama in Yala Local Government Area as well as Shi-Aya and Ibil communities in Ogoja LGA.

Community stakeholders said the bridge has become a death trap for them, especially farmers who convey agricultural produce to the market.

A youth leader, Mr Emmanuel Alaga, 35, spoke to a team of journalists under the aegis of Godshield Kanjal Journalism Foundation.

Alaga said “this bridge has been in this deplorable state for more than two years and we have just been managing it like this.
“We have been looking for a way to convey our message to relevant authorities but to no avail, till God brought your team.
“Please take our message to relevant authorities in Government to come and rehabilitate the only bridge we have. We are suffering,” he said.
Another villager and farmer, Martina Awum called on the government to intervene immediately to uplift the economy of the two LGAs.
Also speaking, a stakeholder, Kanjal Godshield said, “We call on the Governor of Cross River State, to immediately intervene by fixing the dilapidated bridge which has become a dead trap.
