Residents of Ebi’s Mechanic Road in Amarata, Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, were plunged into mourning on Tuesday following the discovery of seven decomposing bodies in a music studio apartment.
The incident, suspected to have been caused by generator fumes, claimed the lives of the friends after a studio session.
The studio, owned by one of the deceased, Akpos Barakubo, became the scene of the tragedy after the group decided to rest there post-session. According to report, six bodies were found dead in the morning, while a seventh person, initially unconscious, later died in the hospital.
Residents reported that the crew had been working through the night using a generator due to the poor power supply in the area. It is believed they fell asleep without turning off the generator, leading to the fatal fumes.
Tragically, most of the deceased were undergraduate students from Niger Delta University (NDU), who were involved in the recording business to support their education.
