The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a 25-year-old contract employee who tragically jumped into an iron melting pot at his workplace.

The incident occurred on August 3 at a company located in the Odogunyan area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.

According to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson, the company’s safety officer reported the incident to the Sagamu Road Police Division at approximately 6:00 p.m. The officer stated that at around 3:15 p.m. on the same day, the contract worker, assigned to the AOD Section, entered the iron melting pot area—a zone restricted to staff during operation hours.

Despite efforts by his colleagues to prevent the act, the employee jumped into the pot, and his body was completely melted. Detectives have visited the scene, and the deceased’s family has been notified. The investigation into this tragic event is ongoing.
