The Niger State Police Command has announced the apprehension of two suspects involved in alleged POS machine fraud and the misuse of stolen funds for betting activities.




The suspects, identified as Augustine Odiokwu Nonso, 28, residing in Bosso Estate area of Minna, and Ahmed Mohammed, 20, from Efu-Goro area of Mokwa, Mokwa Local Government, were nabbed following complaints lodged against them.


SP Wasiu Abiodun, the Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Police Command, revealed these details in Minna, stating that Nonso had absconded with a POS machine and N170,000 to an undisclosed location. He was apprehended on April 4, 2024, after a direct complaint was filed against him at the Bosso Division.


"Upon receipt of the complaint, police operatives attached to the division, aided by technical intelligence, arrested the suspect within Bosso Estate on April 20," Abiodun explained. "Nonso confessed to the crime, admitting to stealing approximately $1170,000, which he used for Naijabet wagers at various locations."


Additionally, Ahmed Mohammed was arrested on May 5, 2024, for allegedly stealing a POS machine from a shop in Kainji, Borgu LG. He replaced the stolen machine with a faulty one in his possession.


Abiodun noted, "The arrest was made in response to a complaint received on May 4, 2024, at approximately 9 pm at the Mokwa Division regarding the theft of a POS machine at Kainji junction." He added, "Mohammed confessed to stealing the machine from the POS shop and substituting it with a defective one he had in his possession."
