The Police Command in Borno State has arrested two individuals in connection with separate murder cases.
The suspects, Mr. Usakahyel Adamu and Ms. Lydia Aji, are accused of killing family members in violent altercations.
Murder of 90-Year-Old Grandfather
In Kwaya-Kusar Local Government Area, 24-year-old Usakahyel Adamu was apprehended for allegedly killing his 90-year-old grandfather. According to the command's spokesman, ASP Nahum Daso, Adamu struck his grandfather on the head with a hoe following an altercation, resulting in the elderly man's immediate death.
Adamu, who spoke to newsmen, claimed he had an epileptic seizure in his room and, upon recovering, asked his grandfather what had happened. The elderly man reportedly refused to answer and instead insulted Adamu. When Adamu attempted to leave the room, his grandfather pushed him back. In a state of anger and confusion, Adamu picked up a hoe and hit his grandfather on the back and head. "I was not in my senses when I did that, I am really sorry," Adamu apologized.
ASP Daso confirmed that the suspect would be charged to court upon the completion of the investigation.
Murder of Husband in Chibok LGA
In a separate incident, the police also arrested 40-year-old Lydia Aji for killing her husband in Kautikari village of Chibok Local Government Area. Daso reported that Aji struck her husband on the head with an axe during a fight, leading to his instant death.
The investigation revealed that the couple had a disagreement over their 13-year-old daughter, Rachael Aji, who had stolen a goat and sold it to an unknown person. The enraged father then ordered his wife and daughter to leave his house, which escalated into the fatal altercation.
Both cases are currently under investigation, with the police working to gather all necessary evidence before proceeding with legal actions.
