Joe Cole of Chelsea and Rio Ferdinand of Manchester United have both ruled out the possibility of Erling Haaland of Manchester City or Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi's goal totals.
On Sunday, Ronaldo scored against Everton for the 700th time in his club career as Man United defeated Frank Lampard's team 2-1.
The captain of Portugal is the first player in club football to score 700 goals, surpassing Messi, who is close behind with 691.
Cole said of Ronaldo during an interview with BT Sport: "It is a massive achievement to do it the way he has done." Haaland may score many goals, but will he have the quality? I’m not sure. We won’t see two [Ronaldo and Messi] like this for a very long time. "
