Liverpool legend Taiwo Awoniyi has heaped plaudits on Awoniyi after the forward breathed new life into Nottingham Forest’s survival fight on Monday night.
Awoniyi bagged a brace in Steve Cooper’s side's thrilling 4-3 win against Southampton at the City Ground.
The Nigeria international’s two goals came within three minutes in the first half.
The striker opened the scoring for Forest in the 18th minute, finishing off a brilliant counter-attacking move.
Awoniyi volleyed home a few minutes later.
Owen highlighted the qualities that make the former Union Berlin player dangerous to play against.
“You see the goalscorer, I’m not going to try to pronounce his name (Awoniyi). He’s scoring goals, he’s got pace, he can finish like he did with the first one, and then he gets back to goal as well,” Owen told Premier League Productions.
“He’s equally as dangerous as that, so very hard to play against because a lot of players that maybe haven’t got pace, you can try to squeeze them outside the box.”
Awoniyi has scored six goals and provided one assist in 24 appearances for Nottingham Forest this season.
