A clash between two villages in Niger State, Tswako Makun and Gbangba Dzuko, has resulted in the tragic loss of lives and widespread destruction.

Haruna Mohammed, aged 40, from Tswako Makun village, and Mohammed Kolo, aged 20, from Gbangba Dzuko village, are among the reported casualties of this harrowing incident.

The confrontation, which reportedly erupted during the night on Monday, escalated rapidly, leading to the burning of houses, food stores, and motorcycles in Tswako Makun village. According to eyewitness accounts gathered by City & Crime sources, the conflict ignited during a wedding reception in Tswako Makun when a young man, purportedly from Gbangba Dzuko, made advances towards one of the brides amidst the festivities.

Allegedly, the altercation intensified when the individual was reprimanded by friends of the groom and subsequently hospitalized due to injuries sustained in the scuffle. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries at Federal Medical Centre, Bida, prompting a retaliatory response from youths in Gbangba Dzuko. This reprisal attack resulted in the loss of lives, destruction of property, and injuries sustained by several individuals, including one of the grooms.

Reports indicate that numerous motorcycles, bags of groundnuts, and other valuable items were destroyed in the violence, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. The chairman of Gbako LGA, Hassan Muhammad, visited both communities to assess the situation firsthand and extend condolences to the affected families. His visit underscores the urgent need to restore peace and stability to the embattled communities.

In a statement issued by the Press Secretary to the Gbako LGA chairman, Yahaya Alhaji Ibrahim, assurances were given that efforts are underway to address the crisis and ensure the safety of residents. The chairman's plea for displaced individuals to return to their homes reflects a commitment to fostering reconciliation and healing amidst the aftermath of this tragedy.

Despite attempts to reach the Niger State Police Command for further clarification, no response has been forthcoming at the time of writing. As investigations into the incident continue, the community remains united in mourning the loss of lives and advocating for lasting peace in the region.
