A devastating accident on the bustling Ondo-Ore highway yesterday resulted in the loss of three lives and left one person injured after a truck toppled onto a car.
The truck, loaded with beer and belonging to the Nigerian Brewery, reportedly lost control at the Liyetu axis of Ondo town in the Ondo West Local Council Area of the state, leading to the tragic incident.
The victim vehicle, a Golf 111 car bearing the number plate BUR 852 TS, was carrying passengers along the route when the accident occurred.
Confirming the unfortunate event, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, disclosed that the deceased persons' remains had been transferred to the mortuary, while the injured passenger received medical attention at a nearby hospital.
She stated, "The Command today received a distress call that a Nigerian brewery truck fully loaded with beer fell on a Golf 111 car with Plate No. BUR 852 TS conveying passengers towards Ondo in the Liyetu area of Ondo town."
In light of the incident, the public was urged to utilize alternative routes to avoid congestion, and individuals with loved ones traveling on this route were encouraged to check on them.
The Commissioner of Police took the opportunity to caution commuters against reckless driving behaviors such as overspeeding and unnecessary overtaking, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing safety on the road to prevent tragic accidents resulting in loss of lives and property.
